Ok, after about 6 different iterations this is what I've come up with. Illustrator is still a learning challenge for me, but I'm learning something new everytime I use the program. I have over 1145 points on this map, which took forever to create!!

Keep thinking...marketable skill! No, this is nice but I think it could be better if your dots were a little larger. Still a lot of "empty" space but a good effort.
